Description

IMDB Top 250

Ofcourse IMDB is frequently used across the world, because of their big movie database and their famous top 250 rated movies all time. This visualisation is focused on this top 250 IMDB movies. It is a very useful database to quickly find all kinds of information about a movie. But often a user struggles with comparing the data with other top ranked movies. The user keeps clicking to get redirected to the next IMDB site with the information about the next movie. This visualisation provides a clean and useful solution to that problem.

In this visualisation you quickly get an overview of the IMDB scores compared to their year of release. You are also able to select your overview based on genres that you're interested in. And this is where the magic starts. You will see all top 250 movies at one glance. Just click on your point of interest and two graphs at the right-hand side will be updated with specific information about your movie of interest, where you just clicked on. More specific information about these graphs can be found at the bottom of the site. No redirecting, just a quick update and overview on the same page at the right side of your screen. But that's just the beginning. Let's say you won't select your movie of interest based on release year and score, but you already have your movie title in mind. Just use the search bar at the top left corner, to find your movie. It will highlight your movie in the scatter plot, so you can quickly compare yours to others by the same year or score. And even see how your movie relates or differs to others selected by a specific genre! And it will update the two movie specific graphs on the right.

GOOD TO KNOW

INFORMATION ABOUT MOVIE SPECIFIC GAPHS

And other infomation about author, data, scripts etc.

As mentioned before you are provided with more specific graphs of the movie of your interest. But what do these movie specific graphs tell you? The first one is a barchart, it simply provides you with the distribution of votes for the current movie. Hover over to see details(just as the other graphs). The second graph provides you with a nice overview of related movies. In the middle you see the current movie (of interest), this one is surrounded by the related movies (based on the IMDB related movies). The darker the color of the nodes the more times it linked with the other related movies. So for example if movie 1 is related to movie 2-10, movie 1 will be in the middle and will be surrounded by movie 2-10. You can imagine that the related movies 2-10 also might be related to each other. For example movie 3 might be related to movie 5. And movie 6 might be related to movie 4, 8, 9 and 10. If so, movie 3 is linked only once, whilst movie 6 is linked four times. Therefore movie 6 will have a darker color. See how interesting? You are not only able to see the linked movies, but you can also see how many times they are linked between each other. And in addition to that, just hover over and you can see the exact amount of links corresponding to the color of the node. Last but not least when you click on a related movie where you are interested in, which is very common, the whole overview will be updated. Which means that the movie will be highlighted in the scatter and that the two movie-specific graphs will update to show the information about this movie.
